A Name & Story You Won’t Soon Forget – Emmanuel Jal: From Child Soldier to AFP International Conference Speaker
(March 19, 2013) The name Emmanuel Jal may not be as widely known to you as some of our other general session speakers for the 2013 AFP International Conference on Fundraising, but that won’t make his story of “lose” and “win” any less powerful. Using hip hop to tell the tale of life as child soldier, Jal proves that being born into a “losing” situation doesn’t mean you can’t persevere and “win” in the end, all the while helping others.
Georgia Brother and Sister Honored with International Youth Philanthropy Award
(March 14, 2013) Carter and Olivia Ries, brother and sister from Fayetteville, Georgia, who have created plastic recycling programs being used in schools across the U.S. and are committed to conservation and endangered species efforts, are the recipients of the 2013 Bob Carter Companies/William R. Simms Award for Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy, Group, presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

Majority of Fundraisers See Salary Increases in 2012
(May 13, 2013) Average salaries for fundraisers increased in the U.S. and Canada in 2012, with 66 percent of respondents to the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (AFP) 2013 Compensation and Benefits Study reporting salary increases of up to 10 percent. Twenty-seven percent reported no change in salary, and less than 10 percent reported a decrease.

Fundraising Chief Watt Calls on Congress to Preserve Charitable Deduction, Look at New Ways to Invest in Communities
(Feb. 14, 2013) Andrew Watt, FInstF, the president and CEO of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, called the charitable deduction a “powerful symbol of American philanthropy” and urged Congress to not only preserve the deduction, but examine new ways to encourage additional giving and investment in the philanthropic sector.
